The Northland Pines Middle School will continue to implement PBIS in order to encourage a positive learning environment for all staff and students. PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) is an ongoing process that helps students to develop self-discipline based on common sense, responsibility, and respect for oneself and others. PBIS is a district and state initiative that teaches and promotes appropriate/expected behaviors for all students. PBIS schools across Wisconsin have created a more positive environment for students and staff by establishing clear expectations for their students and taking active steps in teaching, modeling, and reinforcing appropriate behaviors school-wide.
Learning and practicing appropriate social behaviors are important steps in a student’s educational experience. These expectations will be introduced and practiced beginning with the first day of school and continue throughout the year. Students will be acknowledged and rewarded for exhibiting the expected behaviors. In order to achieve our district objectives and goals, it is necessary for students and staff to conduct themselves in a safe, orderly manner to create an effective learning environment.
“Pines Pride” is our district mantra. PBIS matrices can be found posted in different locations within the schools and individual classrooms. These highlight the specific needs and behaviors expected of each student. We are proud of our school, and we will demonstrate that pride in everything we do with respect, responsibility, and safety. An effective PBIS program promotes a positive school culture and a way to increase and reinforce positive behaviors.
Northland Pines Middle School supports the state PBIS initiative, and provides many learning opportunities that help students develop an understanding for expected behavior both in and outside of the school environment. Staff at NPMS work hard to model expectations for students and provide a variety of activities that reward and support positive behavior displayed by our students.
Northland Pines Middle School also provides multiple opportunities for students to learn and be rewarded for demonstrating the “Three B’s” promoted by the PBIS program: Be safe, Be responsible, and Be respectful. NPMS starts the first day of school with our PBIS “kick-off” to help students transition back into school and help remind them of every day expectations. Throughout the year, students collect Eagle Claws that can be turned in for multiple drawings for prizes. NPMS also promotes many incentives to celebrate positive behavior at our school. Last year, students had the opportunity to attend many assemblies. This included an inflatable party at the end of the school year. We are looking forward to continuing and strengthening our PBIS program by providing students with motivating incentives during the school year!
