Math Week 2020-2021: February 15-19
This year’s theme is, “Solving Life's Challenges One Problem at a Time”.
What is Math Week?
Math Week is an exciting time where students in grades 7 & 8 (HS as well, but have different competitions) compete throughout the week in several math related activities to earn points for big prizes at the end of the week. See the math week display board next week for more information. The more points you earn, the better chance you have of winning one of the prizes.
This year's prizes include: AirPods, $100 Amazon Gift Card, $50 Amazon Gift Card, 3- $25 Amazon Gift Cards, 2- TI-84 Calculators, $50 Trig’s Gift Card, T-shirts, and water bottles.
Poster Contest
Students will create a poster that illustrates this year's theme. Students should see Mr. Czarapata for the poster board and more information. Students can get started on this next week already (Tuesday- February 9th.) The poster is due Tuesday, February 16th at 8:20 am to Mr. Czarapata. There will be a 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and participation points. 1st- 20 points, 2nd- 17 points, 3rd- 15 points, participation- 5 points.
Scavenger Hunt
Starting on Monday, February 15th and needs to be completed by Thursday, February 18th by Noon. Students will complete tasks and solve clues to find each next task (and clues). Students will be able to work individually or in teams of 2. Once teams are formed, students cannot switch teams and cannot join a team once started. Any questions, please see Mrs. Petreikis. This is a race. Students will be able to receive 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and participation points. 1st- 28 points, 2nd- 24 points, 3rd- 20 points, participation- 10 points.
Individual Math Problem of the Day
These are math problems that students can complete and turn in. Problems will be next to the display board in the hallway. There are 3 questions put out daily. An easy (1 point), medium (2 points), and hard (3 points). Students have the opportunity to earn up to 6 points daily. These questions need to be answered at school and turned in the same day.
ESCAPE ROOM
During one math class, Monday-Thursday. Math teachers will explain the rules and how to earn points.
Classroom Problem of the Day
Mr. Czarapata will be emailing MS teachers a problem of the day. The first class to respond correctly to Mr. Czarapata, will receive donuts!
Monday- 1st/5th Block
Tuesday- 5th/1st Block
Wednesday- 2nd/6th Block
Thursday- 6th/2nd Block

NOTE - Due to COVID, we will not be having an end of the week assembly. Instead, we will send out an email with information about the winners. We will be handing out the prizes to the winners on Wednesday, February 24, during the first part of Eagle Time (11:35-12:00). Please look at the list when it is emailed out on Friday to see if you are a winner (This list will also be included in the announcements on Monday). Also, some of this is subject to change because things happen and sometimes we have to change plans.
