WOOD TECHNOLOGY 1 COURSE
This course is for the beginning student in woodworking. It is intended to provide the basic skills and concepts needed for advanced woods courses. The areas within the course are divided into drawing and planning, basic hand tool processes, powered woodworking equipment, tool safety, and career opportunities. Related information for drawing and woodworking will be covered as the student encounters various lab experiences. Students will be given a project folder from which they will construct their first project. They will then design construct projects within their level of skill and understanding. This class is a prerequisite for Building Trades. The student will pay for the required safety glasses and materials.
WOOD TECHNOLOGY 2 COURSE
This course involves the planning and construction of student or instructor designed furniture projects. The student will learn to operate and care for the common woodworking machines. Related information on design, materials, tools, processes and finishing will provide a background of understanding within the woodworking industry. Concentration will be placed on an advanced quality woodworking project. Computer assisted design and planning will be employed. A job sheet will be used for evaluation purposes. The student will pay for the required safety glasses and materials.
INTRODUCTION TO VOCATIONAL BUILDING TRADES COURSE
This course is focused on hands-on activities that introduce students to the foundational skills needed in the construction and related trades. Through actual planning and building, this class will design and construct a small structure. Residential electrical and plumbing will also be covered and practiced. This is a prerequisite to Vocational Building Trades.
VOCATIONAL BUILDING TRADES COURSE
This course is designed for the student who is interested in a technical occupation. The student will have a saleable skill in building trades upon graduation. A student graduating from this program may choose to pursue a career in the field, complete a technical degree in Building Trades, or continue on to a college degree in a construction related field.
Vocational Building Trades meets for two (2) class periods per day during the student's entire school year. (On an individual basis, a student may take Building Trades for only one semester. This course may be taken more than once).
Planned activities will include the following:
1. Complete construction of a house. This would include framing, drywall, cabinetry, trim and wiring.
2. Related technical and occupational information necessary for successful job placement within building construction.
3. Information and skills for purchase and management of a home. Safety glasses, work clothes, work boots and personal tools (hammer, tape measure, utility knife, and tool belt) will be supplied and paid for by the student.
