Overview of Personalized Learning Plans

Northland Pines School District offers an at-home learning program called Personalized Learning Plans (PLP) to families that live within the district. It is important to understand that a student on PLP remains a Northland Pines School District student. He/she is welcome and encouraged to attend courses within school building, participate in extracurricular activities, use district-owned equipment/facilities and remain connected to the school community. When a student is on a PLP most (sometimes all) of the learning takes place at home but the district works with families to provide resources and guidance for the at-home learning journey.

Each family is assigned a PLP Coordinator who will help you develop and oversee your child's plan. The parent becomes what we refer to as the "Learning Coach". The Learning Coach is responsible for the child's learning and will work with the PLP coordinator to establish a basis of accountability. Students receive grades and/or credits from NPSD. We work with families to personalize the learning experience based on students and family needs and desires. If you want to learn more about PLP please contact one of the PLP Administrators below. Below we also have more details about curriculum and programming options for families.

PLPs in 4K through 4th grade offer students a variety of curricula options including traditional print options and online or virtual options. students have the flexibility to attend some courses at school and utilize resources from school. Parents are the learning coaches and are provided the curricula and resources they need to teach the core content at home. Below are links and descriptions to the main PLP curriculum options for Elementary School.

Wisconsin Virtual School (online curriculum and program)

Wisconsin Virtual School (WVS) is an online learning program authorized by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to partner with local school districts to provide online options to students. WVS has a variety of K-12 courses options for learners, including AP, electives, and world language. At the elementary level there are opportunities for learning with an online teacher and to work on your own without the online assistance. This is our most frequently used program because of the structure and online teacher it provides for students learning at home.

Calvert Homeschool

Hard copies are provided for K-4th grade students. This is what we have traditionally used with some families that don't want online learning because it is a traditional program with print materials. Build an educational foundation and a strong base for lifelong learning.

Oak Meadow Curriculum

You can order grade level packages that are printed only pre-K up through 8th grade. Oak Meadow provides a flexible, progressive homeschooling curriculum for students in K-12 (we don't use the HS curriculum). Our student-centered, nature-based approach allows families to set their own natural rhythm of learning and encourages creativity, critical thinking, and intellectual development through hands-on activities and interdisciplinary projects. This curriculum is not as rigorous as our standards and supplemental activities, teaching and resources may be needed.

Middle school learners have flexible options to fit their needs and learning styles. They can take part in project-based learning that encourages creativity and real-world problem solving. Online coursework is available for core subjects and electives, allowing students to learn at their own pace. For those who enjoy face-to-face interaction, part-time in-person sessions offer hands-on activities, group work, and support from teachers. Below is a link to the main curriculum option we provide for middle school students

PLP students in High School can take advantage of a variety of learning opportunities through Wisconsin Virtual School, SOAR High School, and in-person classes at Northland Pines High School. A student schedule may include a combination of in-person and offsite learning. PLP students have access to a learning coach at SOAR HS as well as the ability to attend SOAR HS and NPHS activities and events.
