PHYSICAL EDUCATION - PE 9
Students will get to experience everything that is offered in the High School Physical Education Department in this course. This course will include, depending on the season: team sports, racquet sports, outdoor pursuits, rock wall climbing, fitness testing and fitness planning. NOTE: Required before other PE courses can be taken.
STRENGTH AND FITNESS
This course will focus on improving cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility and body composition. Students will assess their fitness level and utilize a fitness plan that they create to achieve personal goals. Students should expect to weight train, run, stretch and participate in fitness enhancing games and drills. All athletes are encouraged to take this class.
GROUP FITNESS
This course will benefit your physical fitness and your heart. It will work on doing fitness related activities as a group, to improve your lifetime physical literacy. The activities that will take place will be yoga, pilates, spin and other group fitness activities.
TEAM SPORTS
Students will learn the rules, skills and strategies of many team sports. These may include but are not limited to: football, volleyball, soccer, softball, team badminton, team handball, floor hockey and lacrosse.
PERSONAL WELLNESS
This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills that are necessary for a lifetime of personal fitness and well-being. Students should expect to participate in many healthy activities such as bowling, jogging, walking, biking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, fitness related games/activities, circuit-training, strength training, and utilizing the fitness center. There is a fee of $22.50 to cover bowling costs.
RACQUET SPORTS
Students will learn basic skills, strategies and rules for the following racquet sports: tennis, badminton, pickleball, handball, racquetball, table tennis, speedmiton and eclipse ball. Students will have the opportunity to participate in drills, match play and compete in tournaments.
OUTDOOR PURSUITS (Fall, Winter or Spring)
Students will learn and take part in a variety of outdoor and wilderness activities. These may include but are not limited to: biking, rock climbing, disc golf, archery, angling, and survival skills, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing and sledding. Please wear proper winter attire (coat, pants, boots, gloves and hat) if necessary.
FOR SENIORS ONLY
Note: As per Wisconsin statute 118.33, students who have participated in interscholastic athletics, cheerleading, dance team or activities approved by the Principal and District Administrator as defined in the student handbook, while enrolled in high school and as documented by the Activities Director and approved by the Principal, may be excused from .5 credits of the high school physical education requirement, provided they take an additional .5 credits in English, social studies, mathematics, science, or health education, of their choosing.
