Making A College
Education Affordable

The Ab Nicholas Scholarship Foundation seeks to make a college degree affordable for Wisconsin high school students who participate as players or managers in their school’s basketball program. Need-based scholarships, renewable annually, are offered for two- and four-year programs at any University of Wisconsin System school.

The Ab Nicholas Scholarship Foundation accepts applications from qualifying seniors each year between February 1 and April 30. Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than June 30th at the email address on file.

Eligibility Requirements

Before you apply for an Ab Nicholas Scholarship check to see that you meet all of the eligibility requirements:

Athletic Requirements

You must be participating in your high school’s boys or girls basketball program during this (your senior) year either as a player or a manager.

Financial Requirements

  • The foundation uses your completed Free Application For Student Aid form (FAFSA) to determine financial need.
  • You may also apply for and receive other financial aid.

Educational Requirements

  • You must be a senior graduating this year from a Wisconsin high school – public or private.
  • You must attend a University of Wisconsin System school as a full-time student (at least 12 credits), enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year program.
  • To renew your scholarship, you must maintain performance consistent with the original award criteria, including a cumulative grade point average greater than 2.0.

Other Requirements

  • You must be a resident of Wisconsin.
  • You will need a unique student ID number for the UW System school(s) you are applying to.
  • You will need a completed FAFSA form on file (Free Application For Student Aid) for your application to be considered.
  • You will need to file an application online during the enrollment period of February 1 – April 30 of your senior year.
  • Must not be participating in sports at the Division I level in college (4-year program only)

Manito Art League

   The Manito Art League is accepting scholarship applications for students pursuing an education in the fine arts at a college, university, or professional school.  Since 1979, the art league has awarded over $225,000 to students to be used toward tuition in acquiring their fine arts degree.   Scholarships range in dollar amounts up to $3000.  More information, as well as the application, can be found at manitoartleague.org. To download the application, click here.

The Northern Horizon Scholarship   -   Application will be made available to students on December 4th. Applications will be due by January 18th, 2024.

The majority of these scholarships will become available February 14th, 2024. Completed applications will be due by 3:30pm, Wednesday, March 13th, 2024.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD CRITERIA

A. This scholarship is established to reward and encourage students working toward a degree beyond secondary education in Wisconsin. It is supported by income generated by the WCCA members and through contributions. For 2024 we will be awarding three scholarships for $1000 each.

B. Applications must be received before May 1, 2024. Applications shall be submitted to the
Awards and Scholarship Subcommittee on forms prepared by the WCCA. Please send applications to Tyler Betry WCCA Webpage Coordinator via e-mail at wccawebpage@gmail.com.

C. Applicants must be a member of a senior high school class or graduate of a secondary school, including those who are beyond high school age but are continuing their education. This award is available to students accepted or enrolled in a full or part time curriculum that will result in a diploma from an accredited program.

D. Preference will be given to students seeking advanced education in a science or field of study closely related to the work performed by County zoning and environmental/natural resource agencies.

E. Applications for a WCCA scholarship shall include the following:

1. A properly completed application form.

2. Reference letters from 2 persons unrelated to the applicant that address the applicant’s
academic ability, professional potential, applicable work experience, community service, extra curricular activities, financial need or any other relevant information that supports the candidate’s application.


SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION PROCEDURE

1. All applications will be considered in the order they are received during any calendar year.

2. Copies of each application will be made and kept by the WCCA Awards and Scholarship
Committee.

3. The applications will be reviewed by the WCCA Scholarship Selection Committee not less than30 days after the deadline. The committee members completing the review will sign off on thewinning application.

4. The application will be evaluated on the following criteria:

A. Application properly completed and submitted.
B. Advisor/Instructor recommendation.
C. Academic achievement.
D. Financial need.
E. Extracurricular activity.
F. Supporting statements or recommendations from others.
G. Applicant’s thoughts/statements.

5. The scholarship recipient will receive the award after providing confirmation of registration for the current or next term to the WCCA Secretary/Treasurer. The award will be presented in the form of a check made out jointly to the winner and the chosen institution of higher education.

6. The decision of the selection panel is final.

Wisconsin DPI TIP (Talent Incentive Program) Grant Regional 5/31/2024 Varies

Talent Incentive Program Grants (TIP)

Purpose:  The TIP grant aids low-income and disadvantaged Wisconsin students with additional college funding to help reduce the student’s amount of loan, work-study, or unmet need.

Eligibility:

  • Students must be attending at least part time.
  • Students must be a first-time freshman.
  • Students must be attending a public or private Wisconsin college or university.
  • A student must meet one criteria from Group A based on financial need and one criteria from Group B based on nontraditional/ disadvantaged circumstances
  • The TIP grant can be renewed for up to ten semesters of enrollment and must be used within six years of enrollment at a public, private, or technical college or university in Wisconsin.
  • Funds are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Funding:  Funding varies from year to year depending upon the number of continuing students. The Higher Educational Aids Board (HEAB) determines annually the amount of funds awarded for continuing students.  HEAB then divides the remaining funds between the WEOP offices and the college financial aid community to award to new freshman.    The TIP grant ranges from $600 to $1800 per school year.

Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company (WVIC) is proud to offer financial assistance to those students within our operating area as they pursue higher education opportunities. WVIC recognizes that the Wisconsin River and the reservoir system are important natural resources and accepts a stewardship role on behalf of all beneficiaries, including water conservation, flood control, low flow augmentation, hydroelectric generation, water quality, wildlife, and recreation, as well as recognizing the importance of promoting higher education in the Central & Upper Wisconsin River Basin.

Amount: $1,000.00

Scholarships to be Awarded: One

Qualifications:

·Be a high school graduate or upcoming 2024 graduate, age 24 or under, enrolling in full-time undergraduate study in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) field at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school in the University of Wisconsin system.

·Financial need will not be a determining factor.

·Attended a high school whose district boundary encompasses one of WVIC’s 21 reservoirs located in the Central and Upper Wisconsin River Basin.

Application Procedure:

·Applicants must complete the Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company Scholarship Application found at www.wvic.com; and submit as defined below.

·Submit a current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

 

Selection Procedure:

·The WVIC Scholarship Committee will make the selection.

·Scholarship recipient will be selected based on academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of educational and career goals and objectives, and the completion of the Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company Scholarship Application.

·Awards are granted without regard to the actual or perceived race, religion, national origin, ancestry, disability, age, gender, or sexual orientation of any applicant.

Scholarship Administration:

·Scholarship funds will be awarded in the form of a check made out to the postsecondary institution the applicant will be attending, after proof of enrollment is provided to WVIC from said institution.

·Scholarship award is not renewable.

·Decisions are final and are not subject to appeal.

Unused Scholarship:

·If the recipient does not attend a postsecondary institution within 9 months of the granting of scholarship, the funds will be awarded to an alternate candidate.

 

Submission of application – Submit your completed Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company Scholarship Application form to staff@wvic.com by April 29, 2024. Notification of award will be made by May 14, 2024, and funds will be awarded to the successful applicant by June 1, 2024, for fall semester or September 15, 2024, for spring semester, after proof of enrollment is provided to WVIC.
