The Northland Pines High School Academic Decathlon Team had a great season! They finished second at the local event; third at regionals and out of 115 teams that began the season in September, they were one of 20 to make it to the state event where they finished 3rd in their division.
They also had four individuals earn recognition for their individual top score in the Super Quiz (Ben Wedow, Ryan Brown, Marques Mutka, Dan Finke). Ryan Brown was awarded a Bronze Medal for his score in the Science Competition. Rebecca Anderson was awarded a Gold Medal for her score in the Interview Competition (Rebecca's interview was ranked the best in the state!). Dan Finke was awarded the Top Scholar trophy for Division 3 and Dan also was awarded a scholarship from the Einhorn Family Foundation in the amount of $200 for his hard work and dedication to the Academic Decathlon Program. The team captains, Dan & Rebecca, presented the team trophy to Mr. Brewer (HS Principal) for display in the school's trophy case.
The Academic Decathlon program is a rigorous nation-wide program that challenges students in all academic areas. Students also must prepare and deliver a speech, an impromptu speech and participate in a formal interview. The NPHS ACADEC Team is sponsored locally by First National Bank, Headwaters State Bank, Eagle River Napa, and Gremban & Gremban Dental.
