Coming off of one goal losses to Mosinee and University School of Milwaukee, Northland Pines and Hayward were pitted against each other in the consolation game of the 2016 Pines Classic Tournament. Hayward won the game 6-1, taking third place in the tournament.
Hayward scored their first two goals on a power play with Tyler Hunt serving a five minute major for checking from behind. Kaden Bergman scored both goals for the Hurricanes, assisted by Chase Loder on both and Hunter Duffy and Nate Bergum each once.
Bergman scored his third goal of the game off of his own rebound in the closing minutes of the third period. Sammy Spencer was called for interference at the start of the period and as the penalty expired, Felix Taumer sent the puck past Ethan Polich. Bergman scored his fifth goal of the night five minutes later, assisted again by Begum and Owen Paulsen, securing a 6-1 victory for Hayward.
