Northland Pines Middle School
Beginning Band- Beginning instrumentalists will learn the fundamentals of playing their chosen instrument from the Jumpstart Program in August to the end of the school year. We use the Do It! book series and have 2 required concerts. Rehearsals are MWF, with resource days on TTH.
Intermediate Band- Opportunities open up much more compared to the Beginning Band. Students will rehearse MTWTHF. We have 3 required concerts, Solo Ensemble, Holiday Tour, Large Group Festival and a trip every other year to the Kalahari Band Festival.
Jazz Band- Students must be enrolled in Intermediate Band to take this class. It is only open to students who have at least one year of previous band instrument experience. Rehearsals are on MWF, with resources on TTH. This group will perform on 2 concerts with the other bands, learn the fundamentals of jazz playing, and take a trip every other year to UW-Stevens Point Jazz Festival.
Northland Pines High School
Concert Band- Marching Band, Pep Band, Holiday Tour, Solo Ensemble, and Large Group Festival are just a few things that will be covered in this class. Students will learn a comprehensive music education in this class. Rehearsals are MTWTHF.
Jazz Ensemble- An in-depth approach is taken with and emphasis in Jazz style playing. This group participates in Solo Ensemble. Main focus is on the end of the year concert, Cabaret. Many styles will be covered in this class. Students must be enrolled in Concert Band to take this course. Rehearsals are every day with Jazz Combo one day a week.
Jazz Combo- This is generally a smaller group emphasizing improvisation for each individual. Many approaches are taken to ensure success and confidence for students to improve in front of an audience while understanding certain guidelines and musical concepts. Students must be enrolled in Concert Band to take this class.
