“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” - Benjamin Franklin
My name is Karie Jo Bornberg, and I started at Northland Pines the 2014-2015 school year. During my first year in the district I worked at both the Northland Pines Middle School and Eagle River Elementary as the Assistant Principal, and last year was my first year as Principal of Eagle River Elementary. It was an exciting and rewarding school year, and I am anxious and ready for year two!
Prior to coming to Northland Pines I was a teacher at James Williams Middle School in Rhinelander, WI, where I taught 7th and 8th grade language arts. I have also taught elementary art in summer school sessions. Outside of school, you may have seen me at the ice rink as I am an avid figure skater and coach/volunteer around the area as much as I am able. I have a passion for children and appreciate their ability to make every day a boundless and inspiring experience.
Eagle River Elementary has an exciting upcoming school year with many programs and initiatives that make learning come to life. We will continue to be a PBIS school (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) in which we work hard to model and reward positive behaviors. This year staff are working hard to have more PBIS activities such as our beginning of the year kick-off assembly where we we will teach behavior expectations for the different areas of the school. We will also continue to have our Pines Pride assemblies that we recognize students demonstrating positive character traits, in addition to more classroom rewards. We also have many intervention and enrichment activities that allow differentiated learning to shine. This year we will have more co-teaching, both in Special Education and in Title I to provide additional supports to all learners.
It will be an excellent school year full of smiles, laughter, and learning. If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email. Thank you!
